Calling Thailand from Ireland

How to call a Thai mobile from Ireland? - a question from a new mydivert.com user this morning.

Mydivert.com specialise in long distance international call routes. Our call rates to Thai mobiles and landlines are an amazing 1.2 euro cent per min!

There are many ways to use VoIP to either make calls to Thailand, or receive your calls from abroad on your Thai mobile.

1) Call Forwarding
With a virtual VoIP number your callers pay Local Call Rates when they call you. You pay a very low call forwarding charge (1.2 cent/min to Thailand) which is deducted from your mydivert.com account credit. For example, if you have a Dublin virtual phone number with the calls forwarded to Thailand, you can call the Dublin number from anywhere in Ireland and the calls will ring to the Thai mobile. You can update the ring-to number anytime by logging into your mydivert.com account - so the Dublin number can be used to call many destinations.

2) Use a Hardware SIP Phone or Adaptor
Using a SIP phone or ATA adaptor will allow you to make calls using mydivert.com just like using a normal pstn telephone. Each time you place a call you will only be charged the per minute rate to that destination. If you pick up the phone and call Thailand the call will cost you 1.2 cent per min (less than 1 Thai Baht! - cheaper than placing the call from Thailand). An incoming phone number is not even required to make these calls.

An analogue terminal adaptor (ATA) is a piece of equipment which allows you to use a normal telephone with a VoIP service such as mydivert.com. The device acts as a bridge between your existing phone and your broadband router/modem. This allows you to make calls as you would on a normal phone line, using a standard telephone plugged into a small adaptor. Lynksys ATA are available very cheaply on ebay.

3) How to Call from an Irish Mobile???
If your mobile phone supports Fring or Gizmo VoIP applications, and you have wireless access to the internet, you can use your mobile phone to call directly over your mydivert.com SIP account.

For the advanced user even greater savings can be made when placing calls from an Irish mobile to Thailand. A peice of equipment called a GSM/VoIP gateway is required. By using a pay-as-you-go sim card in the gateway and taking advantage of free network-tonetwork calls, or phone-a-friend-for-free type packages, it is possible to call Thailand from an Irish mobile network for 1.2 cent/min
