We at mydivert.com have been preparing for the next stage upgrade of our platform infrastructure and the completion of this work is planned for this coming weekend.

On Saturday 11th December we will be performing a scheduled upgrade on our server equipment at sip.mydivert.com starting at around 9am GMT.

This upgrade work is essential for the continued scalability of the system and to maintain the high performance required.


What is changing?

The server IP address for sip.mydivert.com will be changing from
188.40.93.13 to 78.46.43.9

The DNS for the domain sip.mydivert.com will be updated on Saturday morning as soon as the upgrade has been completed but the changes may take several hours to propergate throughout the internet.


How will this effect your account?
**********************************

No new account creations will be allowed during the upgrade work.

The user account area will be closed for up to 6 hours on Saturday morning. This means you will be unable to top-up account credit or otherwise manage your account during this period.

The automated systems of DID subscription renewals and expiry will be suspended during the upgrade. If any users have DID that are due to expire during the service outage we will maintain them within the system so that repurchase is possible.

How will this effect phone calls?
*********************************

Calls being routed via sip.mydivert.com, both inbound and outbound, will be unavailable for up to 3 hours (we estimate) from 9am GMT Saturday morning.

Inbound calls that are being sent to custom SIP URI mappings, or skype, from our mapping servers will be unaffected by this maintainence work. The mapping servers will continue to function normally.

Users with SIP equipment and telephones registering to sip.mydivert.com will experience a loss of conectivity during the upgrade. The conectivity will be restored as soon as the domain DNS change propergates to your internet service provider (2 - 6 hours usualy).

Users who require a quicker fix for SIP registration problems can replace sip.mydivert.com with the new IP address 78.46.43.9 in their device configuration.


Expected Timeline of the maintainence work on Saturday 11th December 2010

09.00 am GMT : existing sip switch backup proceedures run

09.15 am GMT : existing sip switch is shutdown - service outage begins

10.30 am GMT : restoration of backup completed and verified on new equipment

10.40 am GMT : conectivity between the accounts system and sip switch is restored

11.00 am GMT : restoration of inbound and outbound channels to the new switch

12.00 am GMT : reinstallation of smaller components and codec licenses completed

Once the conectivity between system components has been restored the user account area will then be reopened.

We ask users to have some patience on Saturday before opening support tickets. This will allow our technicians to focus on the work in hand.

There have been some changes to our 'wholesale' or 'reseller' calling rates plans. Wholesale discounts will now be applied automaticaly one time per week to all accounts that qualify.

To qualify for the wholesale call rebate your account group must have achieved a combined call spend of at least 20 euro in a seven day period. The account group incudes your primary account and all linked accounts that have been added.

10% of the total call spend is then credited back to the primary account as a wholesale call rebate. The model is designed to be flexible, and reward resellers as well as high volume business users.

The calculating 7 day cycle is based on 'week of year', Sunday to Monday.

Jordan Amman Virtual Numbers

We are pleased to reintroduce the Jordan Amman Virtual Number range to our DID coverage.

The Jordanian DID had previously suffered from poor international interconnect that made them only reachable from within Jordan. These interconnect issues have now been resolved by the local carrier and we are now supplying these numbers once again.

Jordanian virtual numbers are not permitted for use with calling card systems.

Debugging Asterisk Tips

It is a common problem that people starting out with Asterisk PBX find it difficult to diagnose where problems arise. Here is a quick blog that may help someone in that situation.

To debug asterisk you need to get hold of the asterisk messages and any other log info you can. This isn't always so simple if you have a busy system as so many records are created.

If you have a lot of calls its important to be very quick when you place a test call and capture output so you won't have multiple calls in the same capture.

Log into your asterisk server via ssh.

Usually I then type :

asterisk -rx "sip set debug on"
asterisk -rcvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv> /usr/local/admin/htdocs/debug.txt

(note 1: you can use asterisk -rx "sip set debug on IP" if you know a particular IP, or use PEER. Type help from the command line for options)

(note 2: replace /usr/local/admin/htdocs/debug.txt with some path on your server. If the path is to htdocs then you can easily download the capture using a browser)

And after that I call the number that I want to test and then I hangup when the call goes through. Then I quickly stop the asterisk capture with CTRL+C.

After that I verify the Asterisk capture. I just download it and view in a text editor.

In this situation I only verified the Asterisk log but in another situation I might have to check the SIP packets. To do that I use tcdump.

If tcpdump is not installed you can run 'yum install tcpdump' on a linux system to install.

I then run something like

'tcpdump -p udp -s 4096 -w /usr/local/admin/htdocs/capture.pcap'

to capture all traffic.

or, 'tcpdump -w /usr/local/admin/htdocs/capture.pcap -s 0 host sip.avoipcarrier.net' to get a dump for just one host.

After I place a call from an extension to an specific number I stop the capture with CTRL+C and I download the capture to my computer.

Then using a tool like Wireshark (you can find that on the internet since its a free tool) I verify the call flows and view the SIP messages.

I guess this is a basic howto on how to debug basic things. if you want to learn more check some articles regarding basic call flows and how SIP handles basic transactions.

Also check some tutorials about Wireshark (source/destination port/address, how to debug rtp, sip messages, filters, jitter...).

The 3CXphone compares very favourably to other softphones. Time to establish SIP registartion is fast and dialed calls are established almost immediatly. The phone interface is attractive and user friendly. All the usual features are provided such as voicemail alerts, address book, call records etc.

To configure 3CXphone with mydivert.com you should create a new SIP profile and add your account details as below:



The advanced settings can then be set. We added *95 as the voicemail access number, and checked that the SIP transport method is set to UDP (important!). As we are running the sofphone nehind a NAT router we set a short registration period (2 - 5 mins) to help with keep-alives and maintain the phoen presence.

As we want the phone to send DTMF tones that we will use when logging into out voicemail system we unchecked the INBAND and SIPINFO DTMF signaling. These methods are not supported.



That's all. The softphone works very well and we would rate it with 5 stars.

3CX also offer complete pbx systems for windows which work well with our sip trunking service.

SIP Trunking for PBX

We have introduced a new feature to the user account area allowing the user to enable/disable the SIP Trunking Service for PBX users.

This feature will provide additional flexability to our system, allowing the use of SIP accounts with standard VoIP endpoint equipment, extension telephone devices and softphones etc, as well as PBX servers such as Asterisk and FreePBX. Previously the SIP Trunking Service had to be enabled by our support engineers on request.

What is a SIP Trunking Service?
Sounds very technical, and expensive.... like a lot of the termanology that surrounds VoIP. In truth, it is very simple, and doesn't cost a thing.

SIP Trunking for PBX just sends call invites in a different form so that a PBX knows on which DID number a call arrives and can route it to the correct endpoint.

Invite for PBX : DIDNUMBER@IP:port
Invite for extension device : SIPUSERNUMBER@IP:port

It is important that the correct invite is sent for the correct equipment else incoming calls are not received.

By adding a feature to 'toggle' between invite forms we enable both possabilities.

Service Disruption Ireland (resolved)

We are currently having a connectivity issue with one of our suppliers affecting calls to mobile networks in Ireland.

Engineers are on the case and we have been told the down time should be kept to a minimum.

Service Disruption

We are currently experiencing restricted conectivity to our Data Hosting facility and this is resulting in intermitent service disruption. The issue began around 13:00 pm BST and engineers are currently investigating the cause.

13:50 BST: conectivity has been restored to 80% on the network. Some Th, SG, and MY numbers remain out of service. The engineers expect full service to be restored within 30 mins.

14:01 BST: Full service has now been restored.

Language options added to Voicemail

We have added a feature that enables mydivert.com users to choose their language settings for the voicemail system.

The languages currently available are English (default), Spanish, and French.

The settings can be updated from the User Information page of the account area. Default voicemail greeting messages, and IVR messages, will then be played in the chosen language.

Caller ID settings improved

We have enabled new options for the setting of Caller ID number (CID) on outbound calls. Users can now choose 'CID set by user device' to pass their own CID for outbound calls.

The new feature is intended for pbx users of our sip trunking service where outbound CID needs to be set for individual calls. We have also updated our website FAQ with some information regarding setting CID.

New Mapping Server

Our new mapping server sip.didtrunk.com is now in production use following a 2 month testing period. The new server provides us with a SIP URI mapping API for DID numbers where the originating vendor cannot supply such functionality.

Users who have previously bought Russian, Thai, and Malaysian DID that were not integrated into the mapping API can now request modifications if they wish to use custom SIP URI mappings. Please contact support.

User Registration rules expected for Moscow DID

Various government agencies in Russia had emergency sessions following the terrorist acts in Mosscow earlier today. In connection with the tragic events in Moscow this morning claiming the lives of many people, the Communication ministry, Immigration ministry and various special law-enforcement agencies will be conducting a review of all telco carriers, fixed and mobile.

Much stricter requirements are expected to take effect immediately regarding DID number registrations. During the course of massive, industry-wide investigation, CLECs and alternative carriers might be asked for subscriber data in an urgent, non-court fashion.

We have been notified that readiness to provide complete and true data to law enforcement officers is essential to prevent potential problems. We expect that users may be asked to provide:

- Full customer name and email address
- Address
- A scan of photo ID and/or proof of address may be requested

New Call Forwarding Features

New Call Forwarding Features have been enabled which allow users to forward all incoming calls, forward calls when their VoIP device is unavailable, or forward calls when the line is busy.

If you wish to use the Call Forwarding features of your mydivert.com account simply click on Manage Settings in the Call Forwarding section of your account page.

Scheduled downtime - all Russian DID

On the evening of Thursday, February 25th, starting at 8PM GMT, and ending on Friday, February 25th at 8 AM GMT, all St.Petersburg and Moscow telephone numbers will be periodically out of service.

This is due to scheduled maintenance on the Russian server infrastructure.
+7499, +7495 and +7812 DIDs will be affected by the maintenance.

Local times (Russia) will be 12 AM Friday - 9 AM Friday.

This critical upgrade will improve call delivery, voice quality, and give a better degree of control over customer call load balancing.

The service outage on +92517 DID numbers has now been resolved.

Service Outage - Pakistan 92517

There is currently a major power cut issue affecting the supplier of Islamabad +92517 DID numbers in Pakistan.

The power disruption is beyond our control, or the control of the Islamabad telco vendor, and we have been informed it may be Monday before the issue is resolved.

We thank you for your understanding and politly request users not to submit additional support tickets regarding this issue.

The telco and political environment in Pakistan means that we are unable to provide the usual QOS and SLA guarantees with DID numbers from this country. thank you

Reduced Support for 36 hours

Billing issues for new Algerian National VoIP DID

Newsflash - Algerian National VoIP +21398 are caught as Algerian mobile destinations in carrier call plans.

It has come to our attention that none of the major carriers have yet implemented new billing plans to incorporate the new Algerian Nation VoIP DID numbers.

The Algerian Nation VoIP DID with a dial code +21398 are being identified as calls to +2139 mobile networks and being charged the higher per minute rate.

This is very disapointing and does not assist with the promotion of the recently launched VoIP numbers. Mydivert.com was the first, and still one of the only, services fully backing and promoting the new DID.

We have been unable to locate a single carrier with correct billing to these numbers and have contacted our business liason managers at some of the larger carriers to bring the issue to their attention. We ourselves cannot correct billing to this destination until our carriers do likewise

We hope to post a posative update very soon.

New Carrier to Irish Mobiles

We have switched carrier to all Irish mobile destinations (+3538). This follows a prolonged period of bad routes experienced by users to these mobile networks.

The switch to a new carrier has forced us to increase the call rate to Irish mobile destinations. Calls are charged in 30 second intervals.

We regret the increase in call costs and hope the improved service to these networks will justify the change.
